I have exactly the same problem: In Windows Explorer, the camera detected and initialized. The software (Pinnacle Studio 8 of) the camera may be at once and no longer claims that it could not be initialized. Supposedly would be synonymous a Firewire problem. The software (Pinnacle Studio 8 of) likes the camera then suddenly no longer ... It reads as if you had meanwhile installed anything new, which is now Studio 8 comes in the way: Drivers, codecs, (automatic) Win updates, software ,...?!
If you have an image, play it back and try again.
