Final Cut Pro HD is probably version 4.5, so you can not capture HDV, "HD" refers not here on the with MPEG compressed HDV stream, the FX-1. You are left with three choices:
1. Do not you buy an upgrade for Final Cut Pro 5 (the Production Suite).
2. Do not you buy iLife 05 (much cheaper), or try a software update to iMovie HD. So you can capture, however, cut in Final Cut Pro HD does not.
3. You buy Final Cut Pro 5 Express, but it probably nit so much sense.
If you are working with G4, I hope that you have at least 1.25 Gigaherz, for everything including synonymous (if available in the System requirements 1 Gigaherz) funzt nit. The same goes for memory.
