Hello,
I wonder what is on the HC3, the exposure and what the auto. Exposure, when you can set a value is synonymous. So I could find out in my English Manual, that the exposure (exposure) was probably the Aperture, especially since there in the camera, the iris opens and closes. But with the auto. Exposure (AE shift) also opens and closes the iris. So any shift seems to be, but what I'm not sure. So it starts with the auto. Exposure will only work if the exposure is set to "auto". You get it all out and learn to use the possibilities when you look at times you are preoccupied with the camcorder intensive, so do test shots with different settings and in Play / Edit mode on the LCD screen on the camcorder clips.
