Hi Thies,
I own a Sony DVD recorder (RDR-GX 300). I use this to view movies of a hard disk receiver to archive. If I'm honest, I do so only very rarely ...
For Quality: It has the ability to choose different levels of quality to (60min/90/120 /...). Up to a length of 120 min can be seen s.TV device is not much difference between the original + copy. One shortcoming is that I have, for example, during a mission that takes them to either 65 minutes or to cut a good 60 - or select the setting for 90 minutes. In this case, of course, gives away a lot.
Incidentally, the DVD Recorder + and can - the same burn.

The question is ultimately what you want the recorder? Record TV programs, etc. or "Video recordings bring" on DVD. In the second case, although it is faster than s.Calculator (big difference in quality I think you'll probably s.einem recycled TV device difficult to determine) - only: you can only create a very simple menu, not the encoder switch ausreizen /, lack of post-processing options to mention.
Want to buy the recorder yet, eighth in the purchase that he has a DV input. I also had DVDs that were burned with a Philips recorder that could not be played immediately (Error in Menuerkennung) - strange structure.
Greetings, Jens

Hi, Jens,

thanks for the reply. I want to use the DVD recorder just for my DV - Video Collection burn to DVD.

There are so many that I do not want to cut them all. The ones that I want to edit, I raise in DV - or in AVI format - if I have a lot of time at some later time.

At the moment I have little time and want to copy just casually make - and just in the best available DV to DVD quality.

Well then I would say: s.schnellsten is with a DVD recorder - s.billigsten is s.Calculator (although I assume that you have this software already including, if you want to work on it later anyway).

Something different, a purely practical consideration:
So you want less "requiring editing" to bring movies directly - without incision - on DVD. Do you think you'll look at this again, anyway? Or do they just want to "safely" have on DVD? It must be said that the Mini DV cassette is umpteen times better than a DVD archiving medium (this can be tedious rework + is mglw. Eventually become unreadable).
I would take more time (or move the whole) and collect from those who shoot the best snippets and burn in a more "worth seeing" DVD.

I do not want reinreden you, of course. Only a well-intentioned idea ;-)

We have in the meantime two Panasonic DMR-E500H, with whom I am very satisfied. Meanwhile, we have the recording of the Eurovision News on Betacam SP abandoned because there is no quality difference is visible. We use the highest quality level (for 60 minutes per DVD, but at 400 GB hard drive can be used to live with it), to play off on DVD, you can choose (except solid), a variable level, so the space on the DVD all over is. DV-IN (firewire) is synonymous turn. The Ethernet connection is not very useful, you can only watch MPEG-4 video on a data output and remote control of the device over the LAN would be my wish.

Hello Thies,

synonymous, I think that a standalone DVD recorder is the fastest way to make a videotape of a DVD. I have a model of Panasonic
Regarding the durability of DVDs I agree with the comments of Jens. Synonymous, I think that MiniDV tapes are the better video archives.
