Frage von ALEXIUS1984:

hello friends!

have a question:

I want to back up my vhs tapes and deferred before a year had all backed up on tapes using my camera dv band. I would like to save the movies to its security synonymous to the pc (external hdd) now my question is: to preserve image quality for the best, it would be useful clinging simply take the vhs tapes and then back up on the computer or it would accumulate synonymous, like those already digitized dv tapes apply that to the pc. There was a loss in the quality dubbing vhs tapes to dv tapes from a purely Farbfromat and codec from??

I have published 3 moanten matrox rtx2 in the comb. with prem. cs4: it is therefore now two resulting workflows:

1)-C old vhs tapes -> dv tape ---> capturing via 1394 DV as native or
2) old vhs tapes ---> capturing via analog component as matrox codec (good MPEG 2 codec I with one color format 4:2:2)

is one of those beidne workflows of pure quality of her better? welchees color format has since vhs??

Antwort von tommyb:

You'll see no visible difference between 4:2:2 (your Matrox MPEG2) and 4:2:0 (DV) for a VHS cassette.

VHS recordings are of their nature anyway rather lackluster (S-VHS is the exception, but not top) so you would have no benefit if you put the images now durchkaust again with your premiere.

The only exception: the A / D converter, your card is better than A / D converter of your DV camera. Even then it would be very likely that the "differences" in a maximum measurable but are not in visible areas.

Drum leave your stuff into the computer and play it on your computer as an external disk.
