it is normal that the video editor invites each left-right scroll all the thumbnails in the new timeline? This is every bit of scrolling to the coffee break with me. Have I overlooked an option in the preferences?

Yes you can preset it that he was only the first and each of the last picture displayed in the preview. (Makes sense for many small snippets)
