Infoseite // What is RAID?

Frage von disko:

Hello,

I have a question s.die that with all this RAID stuff know:

I have three hard disks:

A 120GB SATA II for the OS and video editing software

A 250GB SATA II for rendering files and what else s.temporären files generated

And a 1TB external hard drive for movie files

My question now is what RAID you should be set so that it runs smoothly.

Thanks for your help.

Spontaneously I would say no, because for RAID systems usually take the same size hard disks. With different capacity, I did not come under such. Whether it can in principle, I do not know.

But just as I hoped ausgemalt had already does this, right?

Simply no RAID ...

Then I have AHCI mode as a standard to choose?

Just like the looks, do you want a setting in the BIOS setup and make you have to decide.

Yes, if your operating system to boot so that is probably the AHCI setting the best.

Exactly, I want to do not but I must say most of the box with what they are all hard disks will employ.

I just got the motherboard manual again and found there is that I must set AHCI.

RAID is not sensible. You want three disks with separate partitions. What to bring as a RAID?

To that extent you are not RAID-5 to decide (mirroring and faster data transfer) today, I would generally advise of a RAID.
The vulnerability of such a system increases. So, for example, you lose all files on all connected hard disks, if one fails or the Raidcontroller makes the vault and no replacement is available anymore (this one is even with the supposedly secure Raid-5 angeschissen).
Both for me happened before. Since I make no more composite plate. If the performance of today's panels synonymous in a few areas of application useful.

Why lose all data if one hard drive fails? That is the while securing RAID5!
Moreover, it synonymous yes no hardware RAID RAID but by operating system.
Even Windows is in the meantime you can.

I have RAID5 and RAID6 in operation and would not for a backup differently.
The important data anyway, you still s.einem other secure place, no preference which uses RAID or not used.

If you have a hardware Raid-5 is like me and smoke from the controller, you have to - so the RAID-Verbund once again fully available to perform the same controller. If you see this as in my case is out of sale has been synonymous pitch and the content of the intact mirroring gone.

With software raid, I have not yet employed. I've been using since the raid no longer synonymous and do not miss it.

That is exactly why I only use RAID-1, synonymous if perhaps the "old fashioned" appears.

Hi,

the raid, I would only use for cutting, ie video editing, Temp-verzeicnisse.

Since Raid 0 is very fast, faster than Raid5 because of the lower overhead. The best 2 identical SATA disks and take over the Raid Bios interface.

There has been synonymous, but a high risk! That is not bad if one's source material, the project files and the final result on another disk ensures. If intermediate results or Temdateien or so flutes go, these are easy to re-generate.
