It is important to have at least two hard disks. On one, the editing program and is on the other film. Both are on a hard drive can lead to jerkiness. I am of the opinion that it is worth a consideration of whether to buy only a PC or even a Mac.
If this computer is used for cutting and do not necessarily require a compatibility with existing Programs I would advise you to eimem Mac.
The advantages are obvious.

Is not that enough of a S-ATA hard drive? Or, for example is in Premiere Pro 2.0 is still the recommendation to use multiple hard disks to?

I would take a 20 "iMac with 2 GB of RAM. But a 17" it is not synonymous bad. Ne larger panel you can connect to the back and then via firewire or USB 2.0. But 2 GB of RAM have to be.

I have an internal 80 GB hard drive and an external 300GB hard drive. Until now I have the video editing program on the Internal and the video files on the external. Is that reasonable or should I rather all internal to the store?

PS: The hard drive runs on USB 2.0

Hello together.
I have been following short cut the system:
CPU: Intel Core2Extreme QX6700, 4 cores à 2.66 GHz
RAM: 4GB G-Skill DDR2 in dual channel
Hard disks: 2x 500GB in Raid-0, ie each of the 500GB disks consists of 2 hard disks with 250GB each (for a total installed HDs are in the PC 4). Theoretically, the boards achieve a write speed of 600MB / s. In practice, it comes close to this value, but not quite right after all.

Cutting in Premiere Pro has since become a dream, the rendering is super-fast and needs to be done less frequently as transitions, effects, etc. without problems unger Endert in real time are presented in the Project Towns. In the past I can not even represent a simple aperture without rendering the transition smoothly. Exporting is synonymous become a matter of seconds thanks to faster disks. So my tip: If possible, use RAID-0 hard disks and invest in more RAM ...

So a Mac is already views the right choice, but I would rather grow a Mac Book Pro, because this simple upgrade to an iMac, "" is. I've already been around forever have an AMD 2600 + with 1gb RAM, 800GB hdd and a radeon really not particularly outstanding 9200th
It was - as you can see - more time for something new.
I cut mostly to avid or premiere pro and there we have with this computer certainly one or the other problem.

Tsss ... This reminds me s.The time 10 years ago, when the transfer rates of hard disks still in the single digit MB / s-lying area. Back then that was probably essential. But today I can even capture on my laptop and work casually or with other programs that rumspringt the head like crazy, without a single dropped frame. Any reasonably current Plattte writes the 3.125 Mb / s with a weary smile, even if it has to do something else to the side ...

This statement is false. The prerequisite for creating a separate partition images are not separate hard disks ...

Two or more disks are, of course, already a fine thing, but then rather than RAID.

There is another reason why it does not interfere with Programs more user data: The data backup. The system partition and saved Programs and their configuration can be much simpler, faster and less buggy back up if there are no user data in between.

At the same time you have a better overview of their data and may possibly synonymous times reformat the hard drive when a project is completed and the data has been archived. If someone is working with hard disks in personal computers and large amounts of data often times saves / deletes, no longer aware of the increasing volume of usable storage capacity. This can not be easily restored by emptying the Recycle Bin, or by a defrag, but often only by formatting the disk.

Formats are still still PARTITIONS, not hard disks. Unless you mean low-level formatting, which I once did not go out very strong.

I decided to physically separate disks. I so can Paltte for the project to exchange data easily (change context), if I want to potter s.etwas other major project. I can also set the record for archival purposes after work simply on the shelf.

I've synonymous system and program disk in removable frame. This makes it easier for me personally I need the Imaging and puttering around in different environments with no boot managers. If I fail the plate, I'll just push the other in..

Since I already have several Fesstplatten broke and I'd rather be a physical separation. It is less a lost at a stroke.

Kanns I repeat again and again. The computer configuration should be supported of the programs. It brings the coolest hardware synonymous nothing if not clever in harmony with the Progs.

If Avid: ONLY certified workstations, such as the MacBook Pro
If Final Cut: general Mac. Is indeed synonymous for anything else available

And all synonymous with the Semiprogs: Look what hardware to support the Manufacturer Recommend /. Should it rather be a Radeon or a Geforce card.

No, the two 500s in RAID (if you is what s.der security of the data), so you have to speak, only a 500 plate, which then flipped ".
If you security but is a damn (You do not work as commercial or under time pressure and are willing to start at the front of a disk crash, because you have kept the original tapes), you can basically use the disks as you want. Then they should be reformatted to only occasionally, because they are fragmenting with the time and this can dramatically slow down the calculator.

Check out my configuration (below) in the signature. Since I changed 1 month ago, the graphics card, it runs at Videoschnit 100%), stable (and quick. A more modern graphics card ATI HD 2600 XT had previously been problems.

Board is ASUS P5 de luxe. Overall, I have now run 3 hard disks in there and for video 2x500GB in Raid-0-bond.

The dealer / Manufacturer I can - if interested - recommend!

What I have so far regarding gegört ARLT was just good. Very reliable and relatively inexpensive. But with the quad, I would think again. Apparently the most optimized Windows Programs not quad. Purchase you rather have a 3Ghz dual core. And not a Vista Betriebssysthem. That is so lame and wrong eating much Ram. 1Gb there is not enough. In normal operation, the Ram s.dem laptop, s.dem I was always cut at 1.2 GB ... + -. Show that you grow your XP Professionel.

This with Vista, I can not confirm * *. I have just DV editing on my PC (because of this talk), I have Vista 64 and XPpof parallel install. Completely contrary to my expectation: The video performance of the HDV and DV editing (with Pinnacle 11) with Vista experience better performance!

did the tray version and a cheap cooler

to a video card for 50E
Windows XP but not 64 bit!
And mine are flat with external usb angestöpselt

the computer is freshly placed
With the performance I am not satisfied
So hdv cut does work but it does not really fun
working with premiere cs3 and my pc actually uses 4 cores of only 2.5
stable throughout the run is not really synonymous ...

Yes, DV editing is just a theme, where everything must fall into. 've Turned this time, therefore s.einen specialized vendors who made a (cheap) custom-made.
If your configure this, I think the USB hard disks, and the graphics card for real weaknesses!

Both are considered synonymous DV HDV transferred via Firewire - all three names are on the same socket.

You get the video via firewire of the camera into the calculator.

The hard disks do not need to be connected with Firewire (sometimes even counterproductive would that be!).

This is true, but may, in different parts of a computer hinder each other. So I would always buy the hard drive with those recommended several ports, Firewire, therefore, high-speed USB and eSATA necessary. Halt what the computer does everything.

If it should make a specific interface with other devices in combination problems, do you put the hard drive simply s.einen different port, and already the problem is none left. :-)

32bit or 64bit with XP Pro?

The rest is probably: DuoCore 3.0 GHz, 1 x 300 GB, 2 x 750 GB, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia 8800 GT with 512 MB.
In the box must continue to Photoshop, Quark Xpress, PhotoMechanic, Bibble Pro, Star Money, OpenOffice and all the minutia.

it is unfortunately not so simple. For example, DB Dialog (German bank online banking) does not support according to Vista, Star Money 6.0, only on 32bit, StarMoney Pro on 64bit.
The banking, I could shift again synonymous notebook, but the rest of the graphics and image editing stuff needs to run halt.
For PS CS2, there are different indications CS3 should run their full support to CS4 ...

Since my PC more and more zickt, I'll probably order times the 64bit box - called the adventure ...

Almost as quickly. Test winner, the F1.
The 'small' 320s kost 40 euro street price is even nen tick faster and shares the other good qualities.
The 640s is somewhere in between - for 60 euros street price is a good GB / cent ratio.

Amazing flat less the differences between themselves but the gain in performance opposite 1-2 years old SATA2. Mark is already in the normal operation.

I'm at the dealer, who for years has supplied the Fachhochschule Dortmund and configured to our son for a cheap gaming PC. Whom I said: I need a box with 8 MB RAM, Graphics for EBV and DV editing, and two thick plates, one for images, one for video, and one with Firewire card reader.
Then I looked over the offer, which was okay and I nodded.

Very professional approach, already clear. ;-)
But will my video Schnippelei fail because the plates are a few% slower?
Then there are two purely as RAID and ready.

DV is going well on a G5. But better than FCE Final Cut Pro or Premiere. Premiere ere is only on Intel-based Macs. Basically: a Mac mini is faster than the G5. Intel Macs are the future.

hi, this thread is the time time we revived. So I'm just about synonymous me to go up a new PC. it is mainly for videoschnitt (; AVCHD) / photoshop use etc. but probably sometimes synonymous to zocken ...
Although not really know me well, got me but for various test sites once they rausgesucht components for the PC:

Motherboard: MSI 790FX-GD70, 790FX (; dual PC3-10667U DDR3)
Processor: AMD Phenom X4 955 II BE
GraKa: Sapphire Toxic Radeon HD 4890
RAM: Kingston HyperX DIMM Kit 4GB PC3

All would probably cost about 600 euro, while for power supply and housing synonymous least 100 more to come ...

would be very happy to hear your views and possible opinion verbesserungsvorschläge may no longer be interpreted as a halt about 800 euro.

The question is far too unspecific to be clearly answered.

How about "is a car coming fast enough to of Frankfurt to Cologne in one hour?

The same non-specific answer: in general it is difficult to a 'cheap RAID' the consistently> 200 MB / s throughput creates build and comes mainly on the technology used and the budget to.

Decklink Intensity Pro via HDMI s.Mac Pro with Pro Res 422 on a normal plate.

Thank you! Just reading about ProRes 422, there's something of 220 Mbit mentioned. That would be with a compression, right? What and how is there komptimiert? The eignetlich it would indeed be 1.4 gigabits.

I've just got the idea to equip your PC with as much RAM and set up a RAM drive. Several seconds so that recording in the field of Gb would be possible. Should be even though only 20 seconds, I would have taken it. RAM is 100 times faster than any hard drive.

16 GB of RAM, of which 14 could be verwednet for a RAM drive. about 1 minute recording is possible.
