Picture in Picture = PiP. An arbitrary image content, Stillimage or video clip is inserted into the main picture, with or without frames, synonymous possibly a shadow on the lower picture, and throwing in size and position and much more dynamically changeable. You mentioned Adobe Premiere. But it works in most NL-editors in very similar ways.
