If the recorded your tapes on any other XM2 MiniDV camcorder can be played back (check the times!), Then your device with something wrong. If the playback only with this one try camcorder was not possible, could the playback device synonymous been problematic.
The only thing I do not necessarily assume, would be a Sony camcorder to capture images of the Canon. This combination is of occasional users as problematic.
