In what format was made because the actual recording, MPEG-2? Then usually a help demux / muxen those files, then only finishing (cutting, DVD creation, etc.). Demuxer goes eg with DGindex (http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html), with muxen mplex (http://www.wintotal.de/yad/softw.php?id=2894)
