I would like to apologize once for my naivety. I have big problems to upload my videos (panasonic 280) on my notebook too. sometimes it's with the supplied usb, sometimes not. have informed me here and then bought firewire cable. exactly the same mist. sometimes it goes in, sometimes not. first attempts were with windows movie maker. I've bought yesterday, magix video deluxe. Now is it any longer. tolerated the two softwares not? I still rotating through and do not know where I can get professional help. times my notebook detects the camera, sometimes not.

the USB version you should better forget it.
On the subject of XP and Firewire might work through the times here, that helped for most anscheinden.
