2-Hour Lens Shootout: The Agony of Choice (Vintage/Modern)

2-Hour Lens Shootout: The Agony of Choice (Vintage/Modern)

[15:13 thu,25.July 2019   by ]

A truly comprehensive lens comparison is now available on Youtube. Nearly 70 (!) partly very different and original lenses were screwed one after the other in front of a RED MONSTRO 8K VV camera for the two hour clip -- from brand new to vintage, classic as well as anamorphic. For example the Canon Sumire series (available only recently) is in the long list, but also older Canon FD lenses, in the anamorphic area the also recently introduced Glaswerk ONE and ONE+ (prototypes) as well as vintage glass like the LOMO Square Front Anamorphic or also the very special Clavius lenses. Of course, there are also more classic lenses from Zeiss, ARRI/Zeiss, Sigma or Tokina, even if "glass with character" tends to be the focus.

In a careful studio setup, a focus shift, a backlighting situation (flares!) and a pan are recorded. Some of the lenses used are not designed for full format, but only cover an S35 image circle, such as the Arri/Zeiss T2.1 series; in this case, it was obviously shot in the corresponding 5K S35 mode.
