As an increasing number of current smartphones follow Apple&s example and no longer offer a microSD card slot, the only option is usually to transfer data from the phone to a PC via cable. Samsung has now introduced an alternative solution that is also attractive for smartphone filmmakers who want to quickly (and without a computer) back up photos and videos and transfer them to a computer: compact mobile flash storage that offers high transfer speeds via USB-C.
![]() Samsungs currently prioritizes high transfer speeds rather than high storage capacities and currently offers the new USB-C flash drives in three rather low capacities: 64, 128 and 256 GB - the data is then transferred from the drive to a computer via USB-C using USB 3.1 (aka USB 3.2 Gen 1) with a speed of up to 400 MB/s (for models with 256/128 GB storage, for models with 64 GB it is only up to 300 MB/s). The 256 GB version is said to have enough space for 63,730 photos or a maximum of 12 hours of 4K video, and can copy 4 GB in 11 seconds. Samsung is not yet revealing how great the write speed is. The new USB-C storage devices are also backwards compatible with USB 3.0/2.0. The new USB-C memory sticks are also said to be very durable, featuring a waterproof, shockproof, magnetic-resistant, temperature-resistant and X-ray-proof casing, as well as a 5-year warranty. ![]() The new USB-C sticks from Samsung are more intended for transferring data - cannot replace the classic microSD cards, as they are too large for permanent use on the smartphone. Thus, they are most worthwhile if you often produce large amounts of data, e.g. via movies with the smartphone, and want to quickly back up and transfer them without cables. In contrast to USB-C connected hard drives with much higher capacity, the sticks have the advantage that the power from the smartphone is sufficient for them to operate. Samsung has not yet announced the price and the release date. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: 4 GB in 11 Sekunden: Neue Samsung USB-C Sticks übertragen mit 400 MB/s |
