A new, affordable HDMI camera monitor from Portkeys is available, offering wired camera control with compatible cameras. This feature, previously reserved for more professional Portkeys monitors like the BM5, has now reached the lower tier.
Portkeys LH5C with touch focus, among others
10-bit panel with 800 nits The Portkeys LH5C is equipped with a 5.4" 10-bit panel (8+2 FRC) that is not particularly bright at 800 nits. The resolution is 1920 x 1152, and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. The Rec.709 color space is covered 100%, and DCI-P3 is covered 85%.
The monitor features an HDMI input that supports input resolutions up to DCI 4K at 30p and 1080p60. Also on board on the side are an HDMI output (up to 1080p60), a 3.5mm headphone output, a USB-C 3.0 5V power connection, and a 1/4"-20 thread with anti-twist lock. On the bottom, there is a USB-A port for loading up to 20 custom LUTs and saving still images to the included mini USB stick, as well as a Micro-USB port for camera remote control. Additionally, there is another 1/4"-20 thread for mounting the monitor to a camera.
Monitoring Functions It runs on MOVNORM OS with the following features:
- 3D-LUT monitoring with 3D-LUT HDMI output
- Anamorphic de-squeeze is possible with 10 standard aspect ratios; a custom aspect ratio in the range of 0.25x to 4.0x can also be entered.
- A still image can be saved to a USB stick for comparison via the still image function.
- The 360° color correction tool allows adjustment of the hue and saturation of a selected image area.
- When shooting in portrait orientation, the lower image area can be extended.
- Focus tools, including peaking.
- Image analysis and exposure tools, including RGB and Luma waveform, Luma histogram, zebra, and customizable false color with 13 different colors, including ARRI false color.
- Monitor settings: backlight, contrast, color temperature, sharpness, chroma, brightness, hue, HDR/HLG, and image mirroring (H/V).
The Camera Remote interface enables professional wired camera control via a Micro/Mini-USB, USB-C, or LANC control cable for supported models. Camera parameters can be adjusted directly via the touchscreen; for some camera models, the LH5C also offers a touch focus function. The option to control focus tracking via the external monitor is reserved for some Sony cameras.
The Portkeys LH5C weighs 162 grams with dimensions of 13.5 x 8.2 x 2.2cm. The monitor is powered by a Sony L-series battery or via USB-C.
