It was actually foreseeable, but now that it&s here, you only realize the implications: TikTok is launching a new AI-powered tool called "AI Alive" that allows you to generate a video clip from a simple photo. Now, this technology is by no means unique or new, but works pretty much the same way as we already know it from other AI clip generators: The user specifies what should happen to the photo in the generated clip via an additional text input (prompt), and TikTok generates the video not locally, but in the cloud. This is usually no different with other commercial tools (such as Adobe&s Firefly).
What is new, however, is the close integration within a social media app used billions of times. The generated video is therefore always just one click away from direct distribution. Also, the service seems to be free of charge, in contrast to the commercial competition. TikTok seems to value the potential advertising revenue generated with it higher than the server costs for the generation. ![]() Another security check takes place before you post a clip as a story. All clips are also marked as AI-generated and provided with embedded C2PA metadata. For this, the service itself should be free of charge and can now be used directly by millions of users without further installation or subscription fees. This is likely to change the content offered by TikTok significantly in the medium term... but probably not for the better. Bild zur Newsmeldung:
