AJA has announced the free firmware update v4.0 for
FS-HDR Frame Synchronizer and HDR/WCG Converter, which brings a new Colorfront Engine TV mode and v1.4 BBC HLG LUTs as well as other new features.
The new Colorfront Engine TV mode offers new color and camera corrections by adding a control for Knee Point and Knee Slope to better manage highligths and roll-offs in SDR and HDR (HLG and PQ) conversions, resulting in a much improved image output. This mode provides more HDR image information for use in SDR down-conversions, and better manages SDR expansion in HDR. The new TV mode uses an algorithm based on the human visual system that preserves the color relationships of the original material during the transformation process.
Also new are the BBC HLG LUTs v1.4 and a new LUT 9 for converting HLG to SDR display light conversions. Other enhancements include support for a wider range of camera metadata management schemes to streamline the routing of camera and lens metadata through FS-HDR to downstream devices for on-set applications, and the ability to configure the HDR components of the VPID of the SDI output channel-by-channel, which has proven essential for workflows that require a consistent VPID.
