The first major software update for the ARRI Alexa 35 brings many improvements and also a new recording format. In ARRIRAW 3.8K 16:9 - UHD (3840 x 2160), the sensor is read with a slight crop (from 4.6K to 3.8K), achieving a lower data rate while still meeting the 4K UHD specifications. The maximum frame rate is 120 fps for Compact Drive 2TB and 65 fps for Compact Drive 1TB. Recording time at 24 frames per second is 1:38 for Compact Drive 2TB and 0:49 for Compact Drive 1TB. This new recording format can be processed with ARRI Reference Tool version 1.1.0 or later and is compatible with ARRIRAW HDE Transcoder software 1.00 or later.
ARRI Alexa 35
The new Wireless Video Optimized LogC4 (WVO LogC4) feature is an intermediate encoding for the SDI outputs of the ALEXA 35 that is designed to improve image quality when LogC4 is transmitted via wireless video transmitters, for example, when LogC4 signal is sent wirelessly from the camera for color correction on set and banding artifacts are seen in the image. A suitable WVO decoding LUT must be used after signal reception to reconstruct regular LogC4.

A playback menu is added on the side display of the camera, which can be used to quickly play back the last takes for checking. Furthermore, four new functions are introduced for the freely assignable user buttons:
- VF Check HDR and VF Processing are short-cuts that can be used to change the display on the viewfinder, once the Look output is activated, the Processing tap-dances through the three modes LogC4, Look (SDR), Look (EVF: HDR, Mon: SDR).
- FPS Preset - for fast switching between specific framerates, these can now be assigned to different buttons.
- Audio Solo - the camera optionally outputs only one audio channel via the headphone jack. Each time the Audio Solo user button is pressed and released, the camera switches which channel is monitored.
When setting the frame rates, information is now displayed on the maximum fastest FPS available with the current sensor/memory combination. In the Playback Cliplist, additional information about the respective clip appears, such as codec used, resolution, etc.
Other setting options are expanded. For example, the menu item "WiFi Host Channel" gets the new option "Automatic" (new factory default). This means that the camera searches for the strongest WiFi channel every time it or WiFi is switched on. In the monitoring area, the "SDI Clone Mode" lets you copy the parameters from SDI Preview 1 to the second and automatically update them when changes are made (as long as this option is active). The Lens Data Depth of Field Display shows the values of the depth of field calculated by the camera. When working with ARRI textures, the currently active one appears as a character abbreviation in the status overlay.
There are default framelines now for all sensor modes. Furthermore, when changing sensor readout, the SDI frame rate is preserved to avoid errors when previewing on external devices.
The Sync Shift interface has been improved to facilitate matching the SDI output to a reference signal in virtual productions or multicam situations. It now supports adjustments in the vertical direction (lines) and in the horizontal direction (μs). Lines are automatically calculated for the desired output format, which can be switched between UHD and HD. Also for virtual productions, a LAN gateway can now be defined.
