ARRI has just released new firmwares for the Alexa Mini and the Amira in version 5.2 for free download. The range of functions for both ARRI cameras is almost the same. The most important new features include the enhanced False Color function, EVF Gamma options and more certified CFast 2.0 cards from San Disk.
With the False Color function (justifiably) becoming increasingly popular, it is now possible to determine in the Exposure Tools menu of the Amira and Alexa Mini whether False Color Log is C-based or monitoring-based. In the case of monitoring-based false color, the respective output signal is interpreted. So if you have a look at the start, REC. 709 etc., False Color is applied to the LUT signal - even if it is recorded in Log-C. In fact, however, monitoring-based False Color makes more sense if the. LUT is recorded with.
With the Log-C based False Color, the False Color display is always applied to the Log-C signal - even if a LUT is present at other outputs or at the EVF.
The newly added CFast 2.0 cards now include the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB (Rev. D), 256GB (Rev. D) as well as the 512GB version.
The EVF Gamma options now allow standard and lifted to be selected from the EVF Gamma options, while the EVF Gamma up to SUP 4.1, where lifted uses a factor of 1.3 higher gamma, as introduced with SUP 5.0 (especially to better assess local light in the case of dark subjects). Lifted is activated by default.
