ARRI launches 7

ARRI launches 7

[14:48 Tue,30.May 2023   by ]

A small change of era at ARRI: For the first time, ARRI is offering a 7" camera control monitor for the Alexa 35 and Mini LF in addition to the familiar MVF viewfinder systems. Those familiar with ARRI&s previous MVF-2 viewfinder system will of course know that this is also already a hybrid system of viewfinder and control monitor. With the newly introduced CCM-1 control monitor, however, a much larger monitor unit is now available, which is intended to be in no way inferior to the MVF-2 system in terms of the scope of camera operation.

Here is the promotional video for the new ARRI CCM-1 Camera Control Monitor:

Developed in conjunction with SmallHD, the ARRI CCM-1 Camera Control Monitor uses the same EVF monitor cable as the MVF-2 viewfinders. Accordingly, the CCM-1 also uses this one cable to send image data, camera control signals and power. In the 1-cable setup, however, the monitor brightness is also limited to 100 nits - if you want to use the maximum 1,300 nits of the CCM-1 for outdoor shoots, for example, you should also use the (3-pin) PWR-In interface, which provides more power for the monitor.

The new ARRI CCM-1 control monitor operates without a fan - cooling is provided by the overall aluminium design and corresponding cooling fins on the rear. In addition to the connections already mentioned, the CCM-1 also has SDI In and a second SDI In/Out (switchable), a protected USB-C interface for uploading frame grabs, markers, LUTs etc. and an audio mini-jack for headphones.

If you want to operate an MVF in addition to the CM-1 on the S35 or Mini LF incl. (reduced) camera control functions, you can transmit the control signals via the secured 5-pin USB connector (LIMO) in conjunction with an Ethernet adapter (soon to be available separately) (as well as SDI-IN and PWR).

Here is the corresponding Tech-Talk video from ARRI:

The 7" ARRI CCM-1 offers a resolution of 1920x1080 at 322ppi, maximum nits are 1300, working colour spaces are given as DCI-P3 and REC 709, colour depth is 10 bits (8+2) and weight is given as 594g.

The price of 4,950 euros is said to be about half that of the MVF-2 viewfinder system.
