Who was that? Who hasn't even seen a film and wondered who this actor or actress is who can be seen there? For those who don't want to look it up in the IMDb (or wait for the credits), there is now a simple solution: the new free mobile app "ActorDetector" (for iOS and Android) by film director Matthias Lang automatically recognizes actors via AI face recognition algorithm and then not only outputs the name including the link to the appropriate Wikipedia entry, but also provides a list of the most popular films where this person played.
ActorDetector wants to do for actors what Shazam has been doing successfully for music for a long time. All you have to do is take a photo of the film with the person to be identified in the picture (analogous to the audio recording of Shazam), then the app recognizes the actor(s) concerned (including politicians and Brazilian football players, by the way...) and displays names and other information. The app accesses a database with hundreds of thousands of actors, including many from Germany.
In a first test it worked quite well with several Hollywood plays, but not always with German ones - but ActorDetector even recognized the director Tom Tykwer correctly.
