After Sony first introduced a camera in the summer, the PXW-Z300 (3-Chip Camcorder PXW-Z300), that supports the recording of authenticity information not only for images but also for videos, other models have now received this feature retrospectively via firmware update: the mirrorless full-frame system cameras Sony Alpha 1 II and Sony Alpha 9 III, as well as the Cinema Line FX3 and FX30. The Sony Alpha 1, Alpha 7R V, and Alpha 7 IV are scheduled to receive this feature starting in November 2025 or later, with the Alpha 7S III following next year. ![]() The recording of authenticity information, which enables verification of the genuineness of image and video recordings, is not aimed at normal users but at news agencies and is based on the C2PA standard (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity). Sony has not yet specified when the (paid) video signature license for the C2PA service, which operates via its own servers, will also be available to other customers. ![]() Sony&s C2PA image validation service confirms upon request whether a photo or video was actually recorded with a camera—and not generated by AI or other methods, or subsequently altered. Furthermore, the time of recording, which cannot be changed by the photographer, is outputted. New is that proprietary camera data, including 3D depth information, is incorporated into the authenticity check to distinguish real scenes from synthetic or manipulated recordings. Segmented Checking of Large Files For long clips, Sony has introduced a trimming function to minimize the verification effort for large files: specific video segments can be targeted for verification without losing the integrity signatures. ![]() C2PA Integration and Signature Workflow Sony&s solution relies on C2PA-compliant provenance information directly within the video file. A prerequisite is a license for digital signatures and its installation on compatible Sony cameras. Additionally, Sony&s cloud-based collaboration platform Ci Media Cloud displays C2PA-compliant signature information so that editorial teams can trace the origin and integrity of the content along the production chain. deutsche Version dieser Seite: Noch mehr Sony-Kameras erhalten C2PA-basierte Video-Authentizitätsprüfung |
