Coming from small attachment lenses for mobile devices, Moment is currently offering its first "big" optic on Kickstarter, namely an anamorphic front adapter that is supposed to be compatible with a wide range of lenses. Using step-up or step-down rings, it screws on in front of the normal lens and gives images an anamorphic character with its 1.33x compression factor - a 16:9 aspect ratio results in a 2.35:1 ratio after equalization.
The adapter is said to be easy to rotate into an optimal vertical alignment after mounting and to be correspondingly easy to handle. Focusing is manual via a ring on the adapter, while the lens' focus point is set to infinity. A "Gold Flare" coating provides a rather warm look.
The adapter can be used preferably with Super35 cameras, where fixed focal lengths between 35mm and 135mm are supported, on full-frame sensors between 50mm and 135mm (according to the diagram; the specifications speak of 100+mm). Seamlessly it fits lenses with 67mm filter diameter, included are stepup rings for adaptation to 72mm, 77mm and 82mm. The weight of the adapter is 880g.
The campaign on Kickstarter is already more than funded, so the project will definitely come to fruition - as always with crowdfunding, there is no guarantee for successful completion and delivery scheduled for December. Currently, the 1.33x anamorphic adapter can still be pre-ordered from Moment for , the later retail price will be 1,299.
