The anamorphic look remains the order of the day -- now drone filmers can also enjoy the benefits of an attachment optic to capture flight images with 1.33x horizontal "compression", i.e. accommodate more image content laterally. After the subsequent equalization this results in an aspect ratio of 2.40:1 Cinemascope.
Kickstarter currently offers the Moment Air Optics, which is compatible with the DJI Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom. The project was already fully financed after only four hours -- whoever knows this: last year the similar anamorphic Moment Smartphone Optics found a huge market.
Unlike the lens for smartphones, where a special housing is needed, the Moment Air lens can be placed directly over the Mavic camera. A small weight is also integrated so that the construction is not too front heavy. Everything together weighs approx. 40g (DJI Mavic 2 Zoom) or approx. 80g (DJI Mavic 2 Pro) and should not disturb the gimbal operation. The optical design should minimize chromatic aberrations, while a special coating should provide the popular horizontal flares in the picture.
In addition, a set of five ND filters is offered, which can be mounted in front of the air optic. They are also available in a different version for the regular on-board Mavic camera (including polarization filter/CPL). The filters are said to be lighter than Mavic filters from other manufacturers.
If you like, you can order the Moment Air Optics on Kickstarter for 199 dollars in advance until 7 September; it will later cost 299 dollars in stores. Thanks to Marvin K. for the hint.
