Apple has just launched the new MacBook Pro 16". Among the most important new features are a display with a resolution of 3072 x 1920 pixels (previously 2880×1800), a new (quieter) keyboard and the AMD Radeon Pro 5000M GPU with max. 8 GB VRAM, a much more powerful GPU.
As with the MacBook Pro generation before, the CPU is available in maximum configuration with an 8-core Intel i9 with max. 2.4GHz clocking and max 5.0 GHz Turbo Boost. But something has changed with the maximum RAM, which can now be equipped with up to 64 GB (previously max, 32 GB).
The most interesting performance innovation for the video sector is probably the new AMD GPU Radeon Pro 5000M, which is now offered for the first time with a maximum 8GB VRAM option (GDDR6). In addition to the GPU performance of the new MacBook Pro 16", Apple has also released benchmarks with DaVinci Resolve, in which up to 75% or 80% more render performance is mentioned.
According to Apple, the new "Magic Keyboard" keyboard in the MacBook Pro 16" has an improved scissor mechanism that offers a key stroke of 1 mm and a stable key feel. Above all, it should be quieter, which many MacBook Pro users will appreciate. The new Magic Keyboard also features a physical escape key and reverse T-arrow keys, as well as the Touch Bar and Touch ID.
The MacBook Pro&s internal storage option has also grown considerably. The new 16" model now offers a maximum of 8 TB of internal SSD. In the standard version, the internal storage space has been increased from 512GB to 1TB.
Higher screen resolutions and higher performance GPUs also require more power. Accordingly, Apple has installed a 100 Wh lithium polymer battery in the MacBook Pro for the first time.
Apple continues to decide against the integration of an SD card slot in the current MacBook Pro.
The entry price for the new 16" MacBook Pro remains the same at 2,699 Euro incl. VAT.
