Well-informed Apple insider Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is testing several new Macs that use the M2, the next generation of Apple&s in-house developed M1 SoC. More specifically, developer logs, which have been good at predicting new models, show nine different new Mac models (four MacBook Pro, one MacBook Air, two Mac Pros and two Mac mini) with four different variants of the new M2. Gurman expects the new models to hit the market in the next few months. The nomenclature including the classification of the performance classes of the new chips is quite the same as before, so there will be an M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max and M2 Ultra.
![]() Four different M2 models: M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max and M2 Ultra. So far, only the different names of the M2 chips and (partly) the number of CPU and GPU cores used are known, but not further technical data that could provide information about an improvement in performance that goes beyond a simple increase in CPU/GPU cores. For example, according to Gurman, the M2 will have the same number of CPU cores (8) and with 10, two more GPU cores (instead of the M1&s 7 and 8, respectively), and the M2 Max will have two more CPU cores with 12 and 14 and 6 more GPU cores with 38 (as well as 64 GB of RAM). The specs of the M2 Pro and Ultra are not yet known, but they are most likely in between the known models, which would probably be 10-12 CPU cores and 20-30 GPU cores for the M2 Pro and 20 CPU cores and up to 76 GPU cores (i.e. 2 x M2 Max) and 128 GB RAM for the M2 Ultra. ![]() MacBook Pro 2021 Die neuen Macs 2022 mit M2 - und M1 Ultra- MacBook Air mit einem M2 (8 CPU-Kerne / 10 GPU-Kerne) - Mac mini mit einem M2 / M2 Pro - MacBook Pro der Einstiegsklasse mit einem M2 - 14" MacBook Pro mit M2 Pro / M2 Max (12 CPU-Kerne / 38 GPU-Kerne, 64 GB RAM) - 16" MacBook Pro mit M2 Pro / M2 Max - Mac Pro mit M1 Ultra Chip (wie im aktuellen ![]() (- eventuell Mac mini mit M1 Pro / M1 Max) It is expected that Apple will release at least the entry-level MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini at the developer conference WWDC 2022 on June 6.
