Apple Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro coming to iPad in May - in new versions

There have already been rumors about the porting of Apple&s editing program Final Cut Pro to the iPad, but fortunately this will not happen next year, but already at the end of May. From 23.5 Final Cut Pro and the audio program Logic Pro will be available by subscription. Final Cut Pro works with all iPads (Pro) with Apple&s M chip, Logic Pro also already with older models from the A12 Bionic chip.

New special versions with new interface and features

However, Apple has not only ported the two programs, but also added some interesting new features - for example, video can now be recorded directly in Final Cut Pro using the new Pro Camera mode, and there are also new AI features like Scene Removal or a voice isolation. However, some of the new hardware-dependent features are only available on the iPad Pro.

Apple has optimized Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro specifically for Multi-Touch operation on the iPad, with all-new interfaces that allow users to operate the two programs intuitively by touch. Apple is thus expanding the software repertoire of its iPads to include professional video and audio editing using its two best-known tools - Luma Touch&s LumaFusion and Black Magic&s grading, editing, compositing and audio mastering program

DaVinci Resolve are then no longer the only professional editing programs that also run on the iPad. The latter, however, retains the advantage of being free in the very comprehensive basic version.

iPad Pro mit M2 wird die neue Schwebefunktion für den Apple Pencil der zweiten Generation unterstützt, mittels welcher der Stift schon erkannt wird, wenn er sich noch bis zu 12 Millimeter über dem Display befindet. Sie ermöglicht die schnelle Vorschau von Videos ohne den Bildschirm zu berühren.

Die Bedienung von Final Cut Pro auf dem iPad ist aber nicht beschränkt auf Touch - bei Verwendung einer externen Tastatur wie dem Magic Keyboard oder Smart Keyboard Folio können viele Funktionen direkt per Keyboard-Shortcuts aufgerufen werden. Mit Hilfe des Liquid Retina XDR Display des 12,9“ iPad Pros können auch HDR-Videos angeschaut und bearbeitet werden und im Referenzmodus Farbkorrekturen vorgenommen werden.

Pro Kameramodus und Multicam-Videoschnitt

Der neue Pro Kameramodus ermöglicht die Videoaufnahme direkt in Final Cut Pro - Videos können im Hoch- und Querformat aufgenommen und Einstellungen wie Fokus, Belichtung und Weißabgleich manuell gesteuert werden. Kreative können so auf einem einzigen Geräte mobil Videos aufnehmen, bearbeiten und auch gleich veröffentlichen. Auf dem iPad Pro mit M2 können User auch in Apples hochwertigem ProRes Format aufnehmen. Per Multicam-Videoschnitt können Clips automatisch synchronisiert und zusammen bearbeitet werden - User können einfach per Fingertipp den Winkel in Multicam-Clip wechseln.

Fast Cut Funktionen per KI

Final Cut Pro für iPad nutzt die Power des M1/M2-Chips samt dessen neural Engine auch für besondere KI-Funktionen per Machine Learning, die so ähnlich auch schon von DaVinci Resolve oder Premiere Pro bekannt sind. Per Scene Removal Maske können User den Hintergrund eines Motivs in einem Clip schnell entfernen oder ersetzen, ohne einen Greenscreen zu verwenden. Per automatischem Zuschnitt wird das Filmmaterial an vertikale, quadratische und andere Seitenverhältnisse angepasst und per Stimmisolation können Hintergrundgeräusche gezielt aus dem Audio entfernt werden.

Library of graphics, effects and audio

Users also have access to an extensive library of professional graphics, effects and audio including HDR backgrounds, customizable animated patterns and professional soundtracks that automatically adjust to the length of a video with the subscription.

Import and export

Users can import media from files or photos and save them directly into a Final Cut Pro project. Final Cut Pro for iPad also supports the ability to import projects created in iMovie for iOS and export Final Cut Pro projects from iPad to Final Cut Pro projects on a Mac.
