According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 18 Pro will feature an improved main camera on the back for the first time, equipped with a variable aperture. Originally, this feature was expected for the next generation of iPhones in 2025, but Apple seems to have postponed its introduction to 2026. Advantages of the Variable ApertureA variable aperture, which allows the amount of light hitting the sensor to be dynamically adjusted, brings several benefits. In low-light conditions, the aperture could automatically open to capture more light, resulting in brighter and more detailed photos at night or in dark environments. Conversely, the aperture can close in strong light to avoid overexposure and achieve better image sharpness.

Users could decide whether they want to focus on the foreground to create a sharp portrait with a blurred background, or achieve a greater depth of field to clearly depict both the foreground and background. While the iPhone 18 Pro would be the first iPhone with a variable aperture, it wouldn’t be the first smartphone— the  Xiaomi 14 Ultra already features a Leica 23mm main camera with a variable aperture from ƒ/1.63 to ƒ/4.0. In recent years, Apple has continuously advanced iPhone camera technology, introducing features such as sensor-shift image stabilization, 48-megapixel sensors, and the 5x tetraprism telephoto camera. iPhone 18 with 12 GB RAMAccording to another rumor, the SoC (presumably named A20) of the iPhone 18 will be manufactured for the first time using the new 2nm technology—possibly only the chip for the iPhone 18 Pro or even just the 18 Pro Max, due to the expensive manufacturing process. The A18 chip used in the current iPhone 16 is produced with second-generation 3nm technology—a 2nm process allows for smaller transistors, resulting in higher speed and lower power consumption. It is also speculated that the iPhone 17 Pro will feature 12 GB of RAM for the first time, as will all iPhone 18 models the following year, which would benefit Apple Intelligence routines running locally on the iPhone.
