With the 15" MacBook Air, which was also presented yesterday evening, Apple claims to be presenting the thinnest 15" laptop in the world at the moment, with an overall height of just 11.5 mm. The CPU in the new 15" MacBook Air is the proven Apple M2 chipset, which has an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU as well as 8 to a maximum of 24 GB of unified memory.
The most important innovation besides the very slim design (which in terms of compactness is only surpassed by the 13" MacBook Air with its 11.3 mm height) is the Liquid Retina Display (LED backlight / IPS panel) with a resolution of 15" (38.91 cm diagonal) and 2880 x 1864 pixels. Apple specifies the maximum brightness with 500 nits, the colour space coverage with P3 and Apple&s True Tone technology with corresponding ambient light adjustment is also on board.
The 15" MacBook Air has the same high battery life as the 13" variant, which Apple specifies at 18 hours. The 15" version also has the same interfaces as the 13" version, with two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports, 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other hand, if you need three Thunderbolt ports, HDMI out and an integrated SDXC card slot, you&ll have to go for the 14" or 16" MacBook Pro models - see also the slashCAM video performance test of the MacBook Pro 16" with M2 Max CPU.
In terms of speaker design, Apple seems to have been able to use the larger size of the 15" version to accommodate more speakers than the 13" model. The new 15-inch MacBook Air now has a six-speaker system including force-cancelling woofers.
As with all current MacBooks, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera is built into the 15" MacBook Air.
And also worth a mention:
The new MacBook Air is said by Apple to have been designed with greater consideration for the environment and now contains 100 per cent recycled gold and solder in several circuit boards, as well as 100 per cent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. In addition, MacBook Air is said to contain 100 percent recycled cobalt in the MagSafe connector and 90 percent recycled steel in the battery compartment. MacBook Air is mercury, PVC and beryllium free. Over 99 per cent of the packaging is said to be made of fibre, bringing Apple closer to its goal of eliminating all plastic elements from its packaging by 2025.
