With the PA32UCXR, Asus presented a new flagship display for image and video editing at the IBC, which not only shines with inner values. The backlight is provided by mini-LED backlights with 2,304 zones, which enable a very fine-tuned local dimming. The achievable peak brightness of up to 1,600 cd/m² also contributes to high contrast.
The real novelty, however, is a fold-out colorimeter that allows the monitor to calibrate itself automatically without any additional hardware. Until now, monitors with an integrated colorimeter were only available from Dell or Eizo.

The built-in 31.5 inch display can show real 10 bit color depth, but the resolution is not C4K capable, but stays with the typical UHD format in 16:9 with 3,840 × 2,160 pixels. The DCI-P3 color space is supposed to be covered by 97 percent and according to Asus, the display is delivered calibrated to a color distance of Delta E < 1. Which should hardly be relevant in connection with the integrated colorimeter ;)

The PA32UCXR is supposed to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2023 before the turn of the year, but Asus does not yet have a concrete price estimate. Since the older predecessor Pro Art PA32UCG-K already has a recommended retail price of over 5,000 Euros without the built-in colorimeter, the new PA32UCXR is unlikely to be priced lower. The predecessor can currently be found in stores for around 4,000 Euros.

It remains to be seen how automatic the calibration will be. Of course, it would be best if the manual unfolding could directly trigger an automatic calibration process without the user having to do anything. And in the worst case, a corresponding button lurks in the depths of the monitor menu.
