Atomos has now released the AtomX Cast module for its Ninja V and Ninja V+ monitor/recorder combos, announced late June, which turns the two into compact multi-input switchers for four HDMI inputs.
Ninja V plus AtomX CAST module
Combining Ninja V or Ninja V+ and the AtomX CAST to form the Ninja CAST creates an all-in-one live switching and streaming solution, combining the Ninja V's 5" touchscreen monitor with 4x HDMI inputs as well as physical buttons. This allows images from cameras, computers, consoles, pre-recorded content sources, or other HDMI video sources to be displayed on the Ninja V and switched between either via touchscreen or buttons to select which source to output at any given time - whether for live streaming or recording using professional codecs such as Apple ProResProRes explained in the glossary and Avid DNx .
For the computer, the Ninja CAST appears like a webcam, so it works immediately with all popular video conferencing tools such as ZoomZoom explained in the glossary, Microsoft Teams and Skype as a UVC (USB Video device Class )-input, without the need to install drivers on the computer. Videos with different frame rates as well as interlaced and progressive files can be mixed and matched automatically.

Functions are available to easily realize, for example, the overlayOverlay in the glossary explained by logos, graphics, titles in the lower third or picture-in-picture effects - these effects are calculated internally in the Ninja V, so that the computer is not additionally loaded. These functions can be called up directly using the AtomX CAST's special buttons - in addition, it also has illuminated buttons for each input with colored LED lighting to indicate program and preview status.

When the Ninja V/V+ is docked to the AtomX CAST, the 5" of the Ninja V/V+ can be used for setup and monitoring of the input signals, auxiliary functions like exposure, focus and image analysis are available. Via multiview, the images of all four inputs can be displayed at once, including audio level monitoring. The HDMI output of the Ninja V/V+ can be used as a secondary output and configured as a dual program output, preview monitoring or as a dedicated multiview output.
The AtomX CAST module costs around 475 euros, the Ninja CAST Bundle (Ninja V plus AtomX CAST) wrund 1,050 euros.
