The Atomos Shinobi, a mobile 5” HDMI monitor for camera previews that - unlike the Ninja from the same company - does not offer a recording function, has been on the market since 2019. Now the Shinobi II has been released - it has been fundamentally revised and features a brighter display as well as the option of controlling the camera from the monitor via touchscreen.

Atomos Shinobi II
USB-C is integrated as a connection. At launch, most mirrorless cameras from Canon, Panasonic and Sony will be supported (as well as Z CAM E2 via a special cable). In the future, the list will be expanded via firmware updates to include cameras from Fujifilm, Nikon, OM System and Sigma.
Aperture, shutter speed and ISO can be set using easily accessible sliders, and the usual auxiliary views such as histogram, waveform, false colors or zebra can also be switched on for support. The white balance is also controlled via a slider. Focus peaking and zoom are of course also available. The camera recording can be started from the monitor image; a red image border in the preview indicates the recording status.
With a peak brightness of 1500 nits, the touch display of the Shinobi II is approx. 50% brighter than its predecessor and supports 10bit HDR video and photo previews without latency.
According to Atomos, the newly designed housing is around 30% thinner than before; the monitor weighs 210g, which is only slightly more than before. There are reinforced or snap-in cable connections for more robust HDMI and USB-C connections. Power is again supplied by Sony rechargeable batteries, which can also be used to power the camera from the monitor (PD in/out).
The Atomos Shinobi II monitor costs approx. 415.30 euros and should be available immediately.
