Together with the 
Ninja Phone, Atomos has also announced Sun Dragon. These are supposedly the world's first 5-color HDR LED production lights in tubular form, which are said to correspond to 99 percent of the solar spectrum. Atomos' preliminary measurements at least indicate that they should have a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of around 99 and a TCLI (Television Lighting Consistency Index) of 98.
However, Sun Dragon is not a standing light, but a five-meter-long LED tube made of very densely arranged LEDs, which can be positioned as required during filming. The new rope light (why not "Snake"?) is anything but a primitive chain of lights from the DIY store. Atomos claims that the high LED density means that no micro-shadows are created, which would require separate diffusers on normal thin LED light strips.
The brightness is an impressive 2000 lumens and the associated electronics to control the Sun Dragon understand wired DMX and Ethernet as well as wireless RF, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals for control and configuration.
Sun Dragon uses a design of five different colored diodes - red, green, blue, amber and white (RGBAW), which consumes 80 watts at maximum brightness. It is fully water resistant, dustproof and waterproof to a depth of 1 meter. It is also relatively lightweight with a total weight of 1 kg.

If a kind of panel light source is required, the Sun Dragon can simply be wound up in a spiral. Wider spirals produce a wider beam of light, and denser spirals produce a narrower, more intense beam. Each Sun Dragon comes with a spiral carrying case with metal mounting options on the back and magnetic, removable diffuser covers for more traditional use as a light panel.
The Sun Dragon also includes a controller with a large display and wireless/wired DMX remote control. Basic settings (brightness, color, hue, etc.) are available via Atomos AirGlu RF devices. Sun Dragon is also Bluetooth compatible for DMX control via iPad and iPhone apps and can be battery or mains powered. Last but not least, the new lights can also be controlled directly via Atomos monitor recorders and the Ninja Phone.
The Sun Dragon is expected to be available from June 2024 at an estimated price of 999 USD/EUR.
