Atomos announces immediate support for Apple ProRes RAW plug-ins. This is a
new extension to the ProRes RAW format designed to allow camera manufacturers to add their own RAW processing pipeline.
Similar to traditional metadata, manufacturers can use this to embed additional data into the images - for example, properties of their cameras, sensors or lenses. With the new plugins it should be possible opposite open metadatas however camera manufacturers to offer an own processing pipeline, which can determine among other things the look of the own cameras - however without disclosing the special processing steps for it. A ProRes RAW plug-in thus provides a firmly defined, closed signal processing in post-production, which goes beyond the possibilities of typical LUTs. For example, user-defined white balance, noise reduction, demosaicing, or lens distortion correction can also be accomplished here.

Advanced setting options in ProRes RAW
Canon is the first camera manufacturer to already offer a ProRes RAW plug-in for three selected cameras. The EOS R5, R5 C and R6 Mark II output RAW data to an Atomos monitor recorder. Atomos has already enabled full support for the ProRes RAW plug-in for these cameras in the latest firmware release for Ninja V, Ninja V+ and Shogun Connect.
Currently, the import only works in Final Cut Pro but the ProRes RAW plug-in model is basically designed to work not only on macOS but also on Windows and Linux.
According to Atomos, "ProRes RAW plug-ins are supported not only in Final Cut Pro, but also in many third-party applications that have licensed the ProRes RAW SDK, such as nonlinear editors (NLEs) and color correction applications." So it remains to be seen when and if Adobe's Premiere, for example, will follow suit here.
