Who still remembers sound effect collections on stacks of CDs? The popular BBC SoundEffects Original Series, for example, comprised 2,400 samples across 60 CDs. Fortunately, the BBC made its sound library available online as early as 2018, and it has now been expanded again, doubling the number of free downloadable sound samples in .MP3 and .WAV format to over 33,066. The high-quality effects cover a wide range of recordings in categories such as "Nature," "Animals," "Footsteps," "Sports," "Machines," "Electronics," "Ambience," and more. It is also possible to filter by geographical region or – particularly interesting for nature filmmakers – by habitat. Those interested can not only search, listen to, and download various sound effects online but even mix them.
