Blackmagic has just published the "Colorist Guide" for its free professional grading, editing, compositing and audio mastering program DaVinci Resolve (Studio) 18, a 400-page training book that can be downloaded for free as a PDF.
DaVinci Resolve, after all, was originally launched in 2004 - well before Blackmagic bought it in 2009 - as a professional color grading tool. Blackmagic has developed it over time into a comprehensive post-production tool that now also combines the functionality of a video editing, compositing and audio editing program.
The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18
The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18" complements the 4036-page DaVinci Resolve 18 Reference Guide, also available online, which provides detailed information on using DaVinci Resolve for editing, color grading, visual effects, motion graphics, audio post-production, and finishing.
The Colorist Guide, on the other hand, is devoted specifically to the topic of color correction and uses sample projects to impart the relevant knowledge and skills - upon completion, you can even earn an official certification from Blackmagic. As an official Blackmagic Design training guide, it takes you through a series of hands-on exercises that show how DaVinci Resolve&s color correction tools work and should be used in detail. As you work through the book, you&ll learn a variety of workflows, effects, and tools to help you perform professional color grading - even the increasingly important area of compositing for color grading is covered.
The Colorist Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18" is just one of several training guides, such as "The Beginner&s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18", "The Editor&s Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18", "The Fairlight Audio Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18" and "The Visual Effects Guide to DaVinci Resolve 18", which help you to get to know all the major functional areas of Resolve 18.
