Blackmagic Design has unveiled the new ATEM SDI family of portable live production mixers with professional 3G-SDI connections, featuring such features as standards converters, an internal Fairlight audio mixer and 6-band parametric EQ, compressor and limiter, built-in DVE processors, chromakeyers, professional transitions and more.
The ATEM SDI and ATEM SDI Pro ISO models have four SDI inputs, and the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO has eight SDI inputs. All video sources, regardless of their video standards, are resynchronized to match the video standard of the mixer. Users can also apply picture-in-picture effects using the built-in DVE (Digital Video Effects). The USB port acts as a webcam when connecting video sources to computers. The Pro and Extreme models are also equipped with internal streaming hardware.

All three models feature a control panel with buttons for selecting sources, video effects and transitions, and sound mixing. The ATEM SDI Pro and Extreme models have additional buttons for recording and streaming controls, as well as selection buttons that switch output signals between direct camera feeds, program and multiviewer. On the back are SDI connectors for cameras or computers, extra microphone jacks, a USB port for webcam output, and multiple SDI aux outputs for program video.

ATEM SDI Pro and ATEM SDI Extreme ISO
. The ATEM SDI Pro and ATEM SDI Extreme models also include a hardware streaming engine for live streaming via the Ethernet port, which can be used to stream directly to YouTube, Facebook and Twitch. For setup, only the streaming service has to be selected and the stream key entered. For mobile live productions on location, mobile data connections with Apple or Android smartphones can also be used as a hotspot via the USB port, which also serves as a backup option to the main Ethernet connection.

The streaming status is displayed in the multiviewer, it also includes a display of the internet speed required for a particular video format in each case. Video streams can also be recorded directly to USB flash memory as H.264 video files with AAC audio. These videos can be uploaded to video platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo after the live recording ends. Via USB hub it is also possible to record on multiple storage media - if one storage is full, recording continues on the next one without interruption.
Recording multiple video streams
. True to its Blackmagic, the two ISO models (ATEM SDI Pro ISO and Extreme ISO) can also record multiple video streams (as well as the audio sources) simultaneously, including clean feeds from all inputs and from the program. This allows live events to be edited after the fact. The video files contain metadata tags, e.g. for synchronized timecode and camera numbers. In addition, live productions are also saved in the form of DaVinci Resolve project files, i.e. when opened in Resolve, all hard cuts, crossfades and the graphics used are automatically loaded from the Media Pool.
3G-SDI Video Inputs with Norm Converter
All 3G-SDI video inputs on all ATEM SDI models feature a standards converter that automatically converts 1080p, 1080i and 720p sources to the mixer&s video standard. Since the SDI outputs are true aux outputs, users can define the norm of the source video routed to each SDI output as needed. Cameras can be connected to all outputs as they also transmit camera control and tally signals. Both ATEM SDI Pro and ATEM SDI Extreme models can also output a comprehensive multiviewe view via SDI output, which clearly displays all video inputs, as well as preview and program.
ATEM Software Control
Via ATEM Software Control, whose user interface visually resembles a mixer, users can access each mixer function from the desktop. Computers can be connected via USB to control an ATEM SDI using Software Control, or via Ethernet - in the latter case, multiple users on the local network can work with it from different computers.
