Blackmagic Design has just released its 6.9 software update for the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K for free download, transforming the Pockets into studio cameras. As the demand for live streaming setups is expected to increase rather than decrease in the near future, we think this is a pretty clever move, especially for Pocket Cinema Camera users in Covid-19 times, as it provides new options.
With the 6.9 update, both the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and the 6K can be turned into studio cameras that can be remote controlled via Atem Mini or the new Atem Mini Pro Switcher. For the remote application only a HDMI connection to the switcher is necessary. The switch controls time code synchronization of the cameras, exposure control, focus, color correction, backup recording to external USB drives, tally lights on the cameras and the audio channels.
The record lights on the front of the Pocket Cinema Cameras are converted into tally lights via ATEM Mini connection. These lights not only provide information about the respective live camera (red light) but also about the preview camera (green light) which will be switched to the next camera.
For the respective camera operator, on-screen information is provided about the current status of the respective camera.
It&s quite impressive how Blackmagic reacts to the current requirements of streaming and live productions.
Here are the official new features of the Blackmagic Camera 6.9 update:
