Blackmagic has released the next version (2.2) of its free, professional Camera App for Android smartphones just about 2 weeks after the ![]() Blackmagic Camera for Android
Version 2.2 also brings support for recording with the professional, open APV (Advanced Professional Video) codec on supported devices. The highly efficient APV codec was developed by Samsung and then released and is integrated into the new Android 14, which is now also supported by the Blackmagic Camera App. However, APV is not yet supported in Resolve, but it can be assumed that Blackmagic will integrate the APV codec in one of the next Resolve 20 Beta updates. The other new features of the Camera App include a histogram pop-up, the ability to delete cloud accounts, and various corrections to the user interface for different screen sizes. The new features in Blackmagic Camera for Android 2.2- Support for Blackmagic Cloud Folders. - Support for Android 14. - Support for APV (Advanced Professional Video) Codec on Android 14 and supported devices. - Ability to delete the cloud account. - Histogram pop-up added. - Permission for the photo library is now optional. - Various UI corrections and adjustments to different screen sizes. - General performance and stability improvements. The last update brought the ability to remotely control the Blackmagic PYXIS and URSA Cine cameras as well as support for tracking via motorized gimbals, added audio to off-speed recordings. There was also a zebra display for the middle gray area as well as support for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera grip and an improvement in resolution and compatibility for smartphones from Samsung, Sony and Xiaomi. ![]() Blackmagic Camera for Android What can the Blackmagic Camera App do?The Blackmagic Camera App brings the user interface of Blackmagic cameras to smartphones and tablets with iOS and Android operating systems. With just a tap, settings such as frame rate, shutter speed, white balance and ISO can be adjusted. The display optionally shows status and recording parameters, histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame line markers and more. It is also possible to film in 16:9 or vertical aspect ratios. ![]() Blackmagic Camera for Android Direct recording of industry-standard file formats up to 8K into the Blackmagic Cloud is also supported. Tabs provide access to media management, such as uploads to the Blackmagic Cloud, the chat workspace and advanced menus.
