It had been a bit quiet around the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, but at IBC the Australians finally bring a brand new model - but without Pocket in the name. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K differs from its relatives in a few crucial points. It is equipped with a larger, namely full-format sensor and records on CFexpress cards, and lenses are attached via L-mount. Rumors circulated back in June that Blackmagic had joined the L-mount alliance and was developing exactly the kind of camera that has now been unveiled. ![]() Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K The new 3:2 format (24 x36 mm) sensor resolves at 6K (6,048 x 4,032) and is said to have a dynamic range of 13 stops with dual sensor native base sensitivities up to ISO 25,600. The sensor&s native base sensitivity of ISO 400 is suitable for scenes with onset lighting, while the secondary high-base ISO sensitivity of 3200 is suitable for shooting in sparse lighting.
In full sensor resolution (open-gate), shooting is possible at up to 36 fps, slightly cropped vertically in 6K at 48fps (6K DCI 17:9) or 60fps (6K 2.4:1). In FullHD, 120 fps are possible. Due to the 3:2 format, filming can be done in true anamorphic 6:5 ratio without cropping. The camera also supports vertical filming. ![]() The camera is equipped with an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) that is precisely adapted to the sensor. The current Blackmagic Color Science is implemented. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K films in 12bit Blackmagic RAW and also records proxy files in parallel (H.264 1920 x 1080, 8 bit 4:2:0). These are intended for later cloud functionality, where footage can be loaded directly into a Resolve project. For internal recording, the camera has a CFexpress (Type B) card slot, plus a USB-C expansion port is on board for recording directly to external storage or an SSD. ![]() The 1500 nits bright, 5" HDR touch display can be flipped up to 180 degrees flat or down to 47 degrees. Onscreen overlays display status and recording parameters, a histogram, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame margin markers and more. To check individual shots, 3D LUTs can be applied in an instant with the desired color scheme and look. In addition, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K supports the attachment of an optionally available viewfinder. The Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF features a high-quality 1,280 x 960 OLED color display with built-in proximity sensor and diopter. The EVF conveniently attaches to the top of the camera with a screw. The new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K doesn&t have "Pocket" in its name, but despite its full-frame sensor of 180x122x94mm, it actually turns out to be slightly smaller than its older siblings (180x123x112mm) with their smaller S35 sensors. This is thanks to the new short flange mount L-mount (EF and PL adapters are available). Due to the external similarity, the CC6K is compatible with the Pocket cameras& existing accessories. ![]() The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K uses an NP-F570 battery. Also present is a lockable DC power port, the included AC adapter can also be used to power the camera or charge its battery when not in use. In addition, the USB-C expansion port supports even trickle charging. An optionally available battery grip holds additional batteries. Here&s our interview with Blackmagic Design about the new Cinema Camera 6K - fresh from IBC 2023: Blackmagic doesn&t say much about autofocus features; they are present when using compatible lenses. Other than sensor stabilization, there is no such thing. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K costs 2,805 euros and should be available immediately. Bild zur Newsmeldung:
