Blackmagic Design had introduced the big new version 18.5 of its free grading, editing, compositing and audio mastering program DaVinci Resolve (Studio) a few weeks ago, which brought over 150 new features. Following this first beta release, Blackmagic has now released the second beta version.
In addition to optimizations to the new features, this one brings improvements to the quality of encoding AAC audio, improved consistency in decoding H.264 and H.265 clips on some Windows and AMD systems, and more reliable synchronization of Blackmagic Presentation Markers.
Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 18.5
Public Beta 2, also introduced at the same time for the VFX standalone Fusion 18.5, adds new features such as support for Blackmagic RAW footage shot in vertical resolution. This makes it easier to produce vertical or square resolutions for social media. This update also includes additional shading options in the Universal Scene Descriptor Viewer drop-down menu and context submenu. In addition, this update provides more visibility options when working with uCamera, so that overlays can be selectively disabled to reduce clutter on the screen.

For example, the new AI effects such as the DaVinci Neural Engine Based Audio Classification for Clips, Auto Caption, 2x Enhanced Super Scale Algorithm as well as new features such as the fast per-timeline backups, support for importing Universal Scene Descriptor (USD) files, Multi Merge or the new Cache Manager are described in detail. The new Relight function is described in great detail, including all settings, with the help of which the lighting of a scene can be subsequently changed using virtual light sources.
