After only four beta versions in which the new functions were introduced piece by piece and any problems were eliminated, Blackmagic has now declared the new Resolve 20 (Studio), which was presented almost 2 months ago, as final and released it. So if you have shunned the betas of the new Resolve versions so far, you can now upgrade to the new version. Version 20 of the free grading, editing, compositing and audio mastering program brings over 100 new features, including numerous AI tools,
![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 The new AI functions include scene extension, script-based rough cut, automatic audio mix, music adaptation, voice swapping, superscaling and more (however, they are reserved for the paid Studio version). Blackmagic has even published a ![]() What&s new in DaVinci Resolve 20: EditingThe editing modules now offer a dedicated keyframe editor that offers more precise parameters for animation. Users can use keyframe curves and parameters to edit keyframes and adjust animation curves with simple controls. Users can also use the keyframe tray under the timeline to view and navigate keyframes. With the new voiceover function, a voiceover track can be recorded while the timeline is playing. Users receive cue, record and stop controls as well as quick access to voice isolation and dialogue leveling tools. A dedicated track is automatically added. Users can also load prompter scripts and work with a countdown. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 The Text+ tool has been updated and now supports additional layout styles. To work with the individual layers of the PSD files in the timeline, users can now split their layers in place. With the inspector tabs, users can define individual style parameters for each text layer. With the text list, users can navigate, reorder, lock and delete layers. Other new features in the editing module: Clips can now be dragged directly into the viewer to overwrite a camera angle in the timeline live and a safe trim mode prevents important changes from being accidentally overwritten. A full audio mixer with professional level meter has also been added to the editing module. Each channel strip has a left-to-right panorama slider, a fader, a solo and mute button, and professional pan, EQ, dynamics and FX controls. In the color module, it is new that chroma warp color and saturation can be intuitively adjusted with a single movement in the viewer. The stroke control moves the colors in one direction. The point-to-point mode isolates areas for more precise hue correction. Users can add points to highlight areas they don&t want to adjust. The new AI toolsAround 10 new AI-based tools are being introduced into Resolve Studio, including "generating" ones, such as AI Set Extender, which can be used to expand image content based on a simple text message. The area to be expanded is marked and missing parts are then automatically generated. Users should even be able to create new backgrounds behind objects in the foreground. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 AI Set Extender The AI-powered IntelliScript, in turn, creates an entire timeline draft based on a text script. AI IntelliScript matches the transcribed audio in the media clips with the script and creates a timeline of the best selected takes. Alternative takes are placed on additional tracks so that they can be viewed by editors. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 IntelliScript With AI Animated Subtitles, subtitle words can be automatically animated when they are spoken. Animated Fusion title templates are dragged into the track header to change the look and animation style of the text. To automatically switch between multicam angles on the timeline depending on the speaker in a scene, the AI Multicam SmartSwitch tool can be used. It automatically analyzes and selects clip angles based on audio and lip movements in the video. Several AI helpers have been added in the audio area. AI IntelliCut is designed to automate time-consuming tasks in seconds thanks to clip-based audio processing. "Remove silence" deletes low levels or toneless areas and ensures a cleaner audio track. For individual mixing, users can split the dialogue into a separate track per speaker and create an ADR list to replace the dialogue. The AI Audio Assistant analyzes the audio material of the timeline and creates a "professional" audio mix, while the AI Music Extender automatically adjusts the length of a music track to a video. The audio clip is analyzed and a music cut is lengthened or shortened accordingly. Users receive four versions to choose from, visual displays for the cut and the ability to split clip sections. There is also the AI Detect Music Beats function to make it easier to cut to music. Audio clips with beat-heavy music are analyzed and markers are automatically set to mark beats. Users can use these as visual indicators for cut points or drag clips to the marker of the beat on the nearest frame. For better audio consistency, the AI Dialogue Matcher tool should automatically merge the sound, volume and room environment of two completely different dialogue clips. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 AI Voice Convert With AI Voice Convert, pre-generated voice models can be applied to an existing voice recording, while the voice colors, pitch variations and emotions should be retained. Voices recorded in a noisy environment could be optimized and perfect ADRs could be created with the voice of an actor - without them having to go to the studio. Some existing AI tools have been improved. SuperScale now offers 3x and 4x upscaling, which is intended to ensure the highest visual quality of all media in a project, regardless of the source resolution, for example for working with archive material or stock footage that needs to be adapted to the resolution to be delivered. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 Magic Mask AI Magic Mask has been updated for even more accurate tracking within a mode. A selection should be refined more quickly by using points to select people, objects and regions and paint tools. Magic Mask intuitively tracks the movement of a selected area, even with obstacles and in clips with low quality. The AI Depth Map effect has also been updated for faster scene analysis and more practical mattes. Foreground figures can be quickly separated from their surroundings or lens blur can be simulated on the background. For grading, mattes can be refined and specific depths can be isolated. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 AI Depth Map Fusion PageFusion now offers Deep-Image-Compositing-Tools, with which you can access depth data in EXR files. A range of new nodes allows you to merge, transform, scale, crop, recolor and generate holdouts. Conversely, it is also possible to export EXR files with depth data from the Fusion 3D environment via the "Saver" node. Fusion now also supports EXR files with multiple layers or Photoshop files and offers a preview of the layers in the viewer. Fusion can also access and edit all layers in the nodes. The MediaOut node now allows you to preview the subsequent clip grading directly in the Fusion module. This gives you an overview of the final composition without having to leave the Fusion module. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 Fusion A new MultiPoly tool displays all used masks in a single list, which saves switching between nodes and thus enables faster and more precise rotoscoping. With uVolume, volumetric VDB files can be imported directly into Fusion, avoiding time-consuming conversions. This allows you to maintain creative control over imported effects such as smoke, fire, clouds and explosions. In addition, new Optical Flow/Vector tools (Flow Vector-Warp, Vector-Transform and Vector-Denoise) have been integrated. These enable complex temporal effects through the use of motion vectors. Blackmagic Cloud NewsNew features in the Blackmagic Cloud include Cloud Folders, which allow you to share additional clips, images or graphics for a project with other employees. All cloud content is displayed as virtual clips and folders until it is used in a project. After that, they are synchronized locally. The cloud storage has been updated with an icon view. The cloud folders are also already supported by Blackmagic&s free professional camera app for iOS and Android www.slashcam.de/news/single/Blackmagic-Camera-Android-2-2-bringt-Cloud-Sync--A-19284.html to automatically synchronize recordings made with a smartphone with a folder in the Blackmagic Cloud and - almost in real time - to edit them with DaVinci Resolve in another location. Customers without a Blackmagic Cloud account can now be given presentation access to review projects. To activate guest access, users simply generate a URL link to the presentation to be reviewed and share it with customers. Users can view clips, make notes with markers on the timeline and even conduct group chats. Audio and FairlightThe Clip-EQ now has 6 bands in the editing modules. This is intended to enable better sound control at clip level and corresponds to the track EQ on the mixing console. Fairlight has two new options for clip editing. Users can adjust the audio of a target clip to the level or sound spectrum of a reference clip. The EQ match is dynamic and is automatically applied throughout the clip to preserve the tonal match. The Level Matcher enables seamless cutting of clip sections without manual changes. If you have favorite plugins that are often used in a chain, you can now create a Chain FX, give it your preferred settings and save it as a preset. Up to 6 effects can be used per chain, or Chain FX plugins can be combined for longer chains in the effect slots of a channel. ![]() Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20 Fairlight Fairlight now also has an automation mode per channel, which enables more flexibility and creative control when mixing projects. Users can now dynamically adjust multiple individual tracks in one pass while automating some channels in Snap, some in Latch and others in Trim. Other innovationsWhen remote streaming, users have the choice of whether to display Power Windows and other overlays on the reference monitor - useful, for example, for remote workflows when the grading system, the colorist or their customer and their local monitor are in different locations. Users can now also stream in H.265 4:2:2. If material is edited in portrait format, the layouts for the editing modules are automatically rearranged to optimize working with a vertical viewer. DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 also gets new tools and parameters for Apple Immersive Workflows, including support for spatial audio. This means that users can import clips recorded with a Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera to edit, mix and professionally deliver media for Apple Vision Pro. Caution when updating to Resolve 20!Blackmagic has made an effort to keep the project libraries of DaVinci Resolve 20 compatible with the previous version DaVinci Resolve 19.1.3. This allows users with 19.1.3 to access the project library, but individual projects created or opened in 20 are no longer accessible in 19.1.3. Blackmagic therefore recommends a complete backup of the project library and individual projects before projects are opened in Resolve 20.
