Blackmagic has just introduced a new licensing model for DaVinci Resolve Studio via its social media channels. From now on, individuals also have the option of renting DaVinci Resolve Studio on a monthly basis using a license management system in the Blackmagic Cloud. Previously, this option was only available to larger organizations.
;) The new rental licenses can be activated via your own Blackmagic Cloud ID without the need for a dongle or activation code. License usage on different computers can be managed directly in Blackmagic Cloud. These new functions are now available for Blackmagic Cloud customers and can be accessed at  currently this link redirects to the Blackmagic homepage. Fears have already been voiced online that Blackmagic wants to switch from the popular purchase model to a subscription model (similar to Adobe&s CC), but this seems pretty unlikely given the previous statements by CEO Grant Petty. He commented in an interview with Forbes 2022 quite clearly on the subject of subscriptions: Cloud licensors are like slumlords. You have to keep buying from them, and the more loyal you are to them, the more you get punished. It&s like hitting your dog with a stick when he does something good. What does DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 offer more compared to the free version?The paid DaVinci Resolve Studio version differs significantly from the free version and offers many additional functions. Although the free version offers all the necessary tools for editing, effects, grading and audio editing, the Studio version brings numerous additional powerful capabilities and tools such as AI-supported tools (e.g. face and object recognition, automatic reframing of videos, advanced noise reduction and special effects such as beauty filters, deflicker and film grain), professional HDR mastering including Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Vivid metadata as well as immersive video and audio with Dolby Atmos. The support of more powerful hardware such as multi-GPU systems and hardware-accelerated video coding (H.264/H.265) is also particularly interesting for professionals. ;) Immersive video in DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.1 While the free version is limited to 4K UltraHD and 60 fps, Studio allows resolutions up to 32K and frame rates up to 120 fps. Studio also supports important professional 10-bit codecs (e.g. H.265 4:2:2, AVCHD, AVC-Intra, XAVC) as well as cinema and broadcast formats (IMF, DCP) that are missing from the free version. In the area of collaboration, only Studio offers remote monitoring and remote grading for interactive grading over distance. The license for DaVinci Resolve Studio is acquired via a one-time payment, which offers updates and access to professional technical support, while the free version only includes community support. The updates for both versions have been free so far, but in the future the Studio version could become possibly subject to a charge due to the extensive AI functions. Bild zur Newsmeldung:
