Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive - professional camera for Apple Vision Pro

Blackmagic Design today announced URSA Cine Immersive, the world&s first commercial camera system for recording Apple Immersive Video. Apple Immersive Video combines 8K 180-degree field-of-view 3D video recording with spatial audio.

‘URSA Cine Immersive’ is based on the new URSA Cine platform and features a fixed, customised, stereoscopic 3D lens system with two 8K image sensors capable of capturing 16 stops of dynamic range. The sensor delivers a resolution of 8,160 x 7,200 sensels per eye and a dynamic range of 16 f-stops. The customised lens system was specially developed for the large-format image sensor from URSA Cine. The other hardware features of the camera appear to be very similar to those of the new URSA Cine 12K.

A new file format (Blackmagic RAW Immersive) has also been developed for working with immersive videos in the entire post-production workflow. This allows stereoscopic 3D immersive cinematic content to be recorded at 90 frames per second in a single file. The immersive lens data - which is assigned, calibrated and saved for each eye - also ends up in the metadata for post-production.

Blackmagic Design also announced updates to DaVinci Resolve that enable professional filmmakers to edit Apple Immersive Video natively. A new Immersive Video Viewer allows editors to pan, tilt and roll clips for viewing on 2D monitors or on Apple Vision Pro. Export presets enable quick output to a package that can be viewed directly on Apple Vision Pro.

The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive and the update for DaVinci Resolve will be available later this year from selected Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide. A price has not yet been communicated. FCP-Cafe has more pictures
