The obvious sign of the focus on editing is the new "Cut" workspace, which is intended as an alternative to the "Editing" workspace and with its optimized workflow and user interface as well as new intelligent tools is aimed entirely at the fast editing of videos. Users can import, edit, trim clips, add transitions and titles, automatically make color matches, mix sound and more. You can switch back and forth between Edit and Cut rooms at any time in the middle of a work project.
The new Cut workspace in DaVinci Resolve 16
The new Cut workspace: a professional editing user interface for editors
The new features in the Cut workspace make use of old, modernized editing concepts as well as completely new ones. Using the new "source tape" function, for example, all scenes of all bins can be arranged linearly one after the other and viewed in one piece, analogous to editing with video tapes. Another new feature is the often time-consuming zooming in and out and scrolling in the Timeline - it is replaced by a dual Timeline in which an overview of the clips used in the Timeline is dynamically displayed in an upper bar and the active area of the current clip is then automatically enlarged in the lower Timeline. The user can then choose whether to work roughly in the upper Timeline or fine trim in the detail view.
Intelligent functions with DaVinci Neural Engine
The new cross-platform GPU-accelerated DaVinci Neural Engine uses the latest techniques of neural networks / deep learning for new features such as motion stimulation via speed warping for speed changes, Super Scale for upscaling footage, automatic color matching and automatic color matching, face recognition and other functions to make the user&s work easier. With the new Face Recognition, clips can be sorted and organized based on the characters appearing in a setting in Smart Bins. The new automatic color matching feature allows one clip to be matched to the color scheme of another clip for quick and easy matching. Another interesting feature, Object Removal, offers - similar to the new Content Aware Fill in Adobe&s After Effects CC - the ability to "erase" unwanted objects from a moving image and intelligently replace the background.
New features in the Editing area
The other innovations fulfill long-cherished user wishes such as applying the "Adjustment Clips" with their effects and gradings of a clip to the clips below in the Timeline. Quick Export" allows clips to be uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo from anywhere in the application. The scopes are now GPU-accelerated and offer even more options for technical monitoring. Timelines in timelines with different resolutions and frame rates can now be created and edited within a project.
DaVinci Resolve 16
New features in the Audio/Fairlight section
The extensively updated Fairlight workspace now supports elastic waveform matching for stretching waveforms to synchronize ADR content very accurately with video content. In addition, there is now support for immersive 3D audio, new bus lanes, automated previews, tools for enhancing dialogue, and even more FairlightFX.
New features in Resolve Studio
In DaVinci Resolve Studio 16 there are profound improvements to existing ResolveFX effects as well as some new plug-ins especially for editors and colorists. There are new ResolveFX plug-ins for vignettes, shadowing, removing objects, adding analog noise and noise effects, chromatic aberration, video stylization and more. There have also been improvements for the following plug-ins: Scanning Lines, Beauty, Face Refinement, Blanking Fill Effects, Warping, Pixel Bug Fix, and Color Space Conversion. In addition, users can now display and edit ResolveFX keyframes from the Timeline Curve Editor in the Edit Workspace or from the Keyframe Panel in the Color Workspace.
The new version DaVinci Resolve 16 is still in beta for now, but can already be downloaded for free. Matching Resolve 16, Blackmagic has also introduced a special editing keyboard, which will cost about 1,000 dollars.
