The well-known and proven 3D tracking software SythEyes will become part of Boris FX in the future. Boris FX, developer of visual effects plugins and applications, announces the acquisition of SynthEyes from Andersson Technologies LLC.
SynthEyes' previously stand-alone 3D tracking application has enabled users to perform complex 3D set extensions, place CG characters in scenes and animate them using motion capture for about two decades.
As a so-called 3D camera solver, the software has a good reputation and is used, among other things, to insert objects into clips with a moving camera or to correct shaky shots. SynthEyes also occasionally plays an important role in post-production for virtual sets, as the software attempts to accurately reconstruct the camera movement from a recorded scene in a virtual 3D space.

In its literal moving past, SynthEyes has been used on blockbusters such as Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy series, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Pan's Labyrinth and King Kong, as well as popular episodic series such as Foundation, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Fringe and Lost.
Object tracking and the ability to deal with complex lens distortions could therefore make SynthEyes a good addition to the Boris FX suite.

SynthEyes allows, among other things, the reconstruction of the camera movement.
The founder and inventor of SynthEyes - Dr. Andersson - is expected to maintain his leadership role in product development while Boris FX seeks to develop and sell the SynthEyes 3D camera tracking tools as its own application and to leverage the 3D technology for its product brands. SynthEyes is available as a standalone application starting at for a perpetual license until further notice.
