FXhome has released an update to its 3D camera tracking app CamTrackAR App for iOS. The new version 2.1 now supports Apple Motion, which means Motion and Final Cut Pro users can work with footage from their iPhone or iPad along with 3D tracking data in the form of exported ".motn" files. The update also improves support for older iOS devices and provides enhanced and improved status information to help track faster and easier.
What&s new in CamTrackAR 2.1.
- CamTrackAR now supports export to Apple Motion (.motn).
- Added more information about world and camera tracking.
- Fixed an issue where the app would only record 0 keyframes, resulting in an error when importing.
- Fixed an issue where Blender keyframes were out of sync.
- Added a tooltip for setting the ground plane for new users.
- Added various performance improvements for older devices.
What does CamTrackAR actually do?
First, tracking data can be processed directly in the iPhone if the device is already used as the main camera. Second, you can use the app to walk a location before shooting, setting virtual tracking points via touch gesture.
If you then shoot your clips through the same lens, the app already knows the tracking points it should follow very precisely - and can match them even more correctly with its "predefined spatial understanding". For further processing, the tracking data can then be exported to HitFilm (.hfcs) or Blender (.py). And who owns the purchase version can additionally export to Adobe After Effects.
Already with version 2.0, CamTrackAR also became a previs tool on set for iPhone or iPad filmmakers, in which previously created 3D objects such as backgrounds can be imported and viewed in real time via AR. CamTrackAR leverages Apple&s ARKit and LiDAR scanning technologies for automatic placement of augmented reality content in the camera image, as well as enhanced motion capture and calculation of which parts of the image are actually occluded to enable virtual production workflows on an iPhone or iPad.
