According to a Bloomberg report, the ARRI Group is looking for investors. Accordingly, a partial and even full sale of business units is said to be a possible option. There is currently no precise information; the report is based on insider information. ARRI is said to already be working on a "streamlining" of its business with the help of the management consultancy AlixPartners.
Shortly thereafter, in June, it was announced that ARRI would be closing its lighting factory in Stephanskirchen in the fall. For over 70 years, the entire portfolio of ARRI lights for professional use has been produced there - both the conventional and the newer LED lights, a total of approximately 60,000 per year. Together with Stephanskirchen, the logistics center in Brannenburg is also to be closed. ![]() ARRI Skypanels, manufactured in Stephanskirchen While the last few years have not been easy for the film industry as a whole, as many productions were paused or even discontinued due to Corona and then the lengthy Hollywood strikes, ARRI is likely also suffering from the increasingly high-quality but comparatively very inexpensive lighting competition from China. Whether the lighting division is actually up for sale as a consequence cannot be said with certainty. However, without a factory, own production will be difficult. ![]() New ALEXA 35 Xtreme In terms of cameras, ARRI is still ahead in many respects in terms of quality. The new ALEXA 35 Xtreme with up to 660 fps was recently introduced, as well as the new ARRICORE Codec. It remains to be hoped that this foray into high-speed realms is to be understood as part of the concentration on the core business and that this will continue to remain in the hands of the traditional Munich-based company founded in 1917.
