Camerimage: the film festival especially for cinematographers

This weekend in Bydgoszcz (Poland) starts a very special film festival -- because while directors and actors are usually in the limelight, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, or Camerimage for short, is all about the camera. Or rather, the people behind it, because the aim of the festival is to honour the image-forming work of DoPs. Thus, films in different categories (main competition, documentary film, music video, newcomer, etc.) will be shown and awarded in films in which the camera control plays a decisive role in filmic narration. Celebrities from the film business such as Jessica Lange, Oliver Stone, David Lynch, Viggo Mortensen, Bill Murray, Roman Polanski and Terry Gilliam will be there.
Since its foundation in 1993, Camerimage has evolved from an insider tip to a meeting place for the industry. The exhibition area Camerimage Market, where current technology is exhibited, is now docked. RED will show the new Monstro 8K VV sensor and Panavision the Millenium DXL camera. Camera (accessory) manufacturers such as Aaton, Angenieux, ARRI, Canon, Cooke, Dedo Weigert, Fujinon, Panasonic, Panavision, RED, Samyang, Sony and Zeiss are also represented with their products.
Another focus is on seminars, workshops and meetings organised by major manufacturers such as ARRI, Panavision, Zeiss, RED, RED, Panasonic, Canon and Sony. The topic is mostly dealing with special products - often based on practical examples, films are shown and the technique used is explained in detail by the camera operators. For example, ARRI presents a documentary film on the company's 100th anniversary, Canon presents a seminar on "C200 and Camera RAW Light", Sony a screening with footage of the new Cinealta Venice camera, RED the seminar "The Future of Digital Formats" with the camera men Christopher Probst and Markus Förderer, Panasonic a seminar on Varicam/Netflix and Panavision the workshop "Beauty".
The 25th International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography runs from 11 to 18 November.
