In July, Canon will release firmware updates for some Cinema EOS and XF camcorders, including the C400 and C80, in addition to a major update for PTZ cameras.
The EOS C400 will gain the ability to combine Tracking AF with manual focus control. While Tracking AF is active, the user can manually adjust the focus using the lens' focus ring. Once manual focus adjustment is complete, the camera maintains focus and Tracking AF automatically resumes.

With the new firmware version, the edge display (display level 2) will be expanded on both cameras to display more information at a glance. This includes parameters for sensor mode and resolution, recording codec selected for each card slot, custom picture gamma and color space, digital image stabilization status, and tilt angle of the electronic level.
In addition, it will be possible to play back Cinema RAW Light video files in-camera with applied digital lens correction and improved OSD customization. More Look/LUT files can be imported, up to 256 (previously 20), and Digital IS can be paused during recording.
The C400 and C80 will also be able to output CV protocols to multiple devices for virtual productions. Lens metadata can then be used by multiple different computers running the Canon CV Metadata Extraction Plugin.
As Digital Camera World reports (www.digitalcameraworld.com/cameras/cinema-cameras/canons-cinema-cameras-are-about-to-get-password-protection-like-the-pin-on-a-smartphone), the Canon C400, C80, C70, R5C, and the XF605 camcorder will also be updated with optional password protection - if this is active, a code must be entered each time the camera is started. This fulfills the requirements of an EU directive regarding the provision of radio equipment, which requires devices with internet access to meet certain security requirements.
